MUNA ABI - BOARD MEMBER & MEMBERSHIP
Muna Abi is the Founder and Director of Mubi Leather a social enterprise that deals in designing, manufacturing, and retailing leather bags and accessories. Mubi leather sources all their leather locally, works with local artisans, supporting them through training and empowering them by providing them access to markets.
Before embarking on a journey to become a social entrepreneur, Muna graduated from the University of Nairobi with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and worked as an accountant for a shipping company in Mombasa. Muna is a firm believer in continuous learning. To prosper in entrepreneurship, Muna enrolled in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs, a program run by the US Embassy in Kenya, supporting women entrepreneurs. In addition, Muna joined DHL & GIZ E-Commerce program, SINAPIS Road To Growth program, and WomenWork The Digital Future Program.
This year her leather products were certified by the Kenya Bureau Of Standards (KEBS). Aspiring to acquire the “Made in Kenya” Brand Mark, Mubi leather will soon be certified by Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA)
Celebrating a milestone, her brand Mubi leather is one of the few Kenyan brands that got selected to virtually exhibit their products at the Dubai 2020 Expo under SheTrades from the 13th to the 15th of February 2022.
In an effort to amplify the social impact, through Mubi leather Muna plans to train and empower more women to become qualified leather artisans. The skills will enable them to make a decent living and will support the growth and development of the leather ecosystem.
